Formal Notice of DS-1 Standard Training Class

DS-1TM standard is a set of advanced drill string and its components manufacturing, design, inspection standards, the industry generally recognized, so far which has been adopted more than 60 countries and regions in the world. In the early period, lacking of down hole tool standard, as co-sponsors, T.H.Hill combined the other 12 operating companies which approve the necessity to set standard to participate this project. The first edition of DS-1 was published in 1992 and sold 16000 copies.

The second edition was published in 1998. The number of sponsors has developed into 37 including operating, renting and inspection companies. This edition was sold 10000 copies, which has become popular drilling tools specification and quality assurance standard in the world. From that time, engineering and technical staff of T.H.Hill followed developing step, then the third and forth editions were published, respectively. Published in 2012, the fourth edition includes new manufacture, inspection and design technique of specialty tools.

More and more people use the DS-1 Standard in China; however, there are so many differences in understanding and mastering. T.H.Hill decides to hold the first training class in Oct.17-19, 2016 in China. After the end of training, the DS-1 training certificate is issued by the T.H.Hill. As training co-organizer, our lab is responsible for organizing, noticing and assisting to develop this training, specific as follows:

Samit Gokhale

Samit Gokhale is Vice President of Engineering at T H Hill Associates. He has been with the company since 2001, and he has worked on and managed numerous failure investigations and projects involving drill string design, fatigue design, and stress analysis. Samit has been an instructor for drill string design and failure prevention courses for several years, teaching schools worldwide. He also provides expert witness support for investigations that lead to litigation. Prior to joining T H Hill, he worked as a design engineer with Tata Motors. He holds an M.S. in mechanical engineering from the University of Florida.

Grant Pettit

Grant Pettit is the Manager of Corporate Training at T H Hill Associates. Since joining the company in 2006 he has worked on failure analyses, drill string design, casing design, and other engineering consulting projects for several global operators and service companies in the drilling and completions field. He teaches drill string design and failure prevention courses worldwide, and develops and improves those courses as needed. He holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Florida and is registered as a Professional Engineer in the state of Texas.
